Life’s Heart – March 2020 Update

Blessings!

In the midst of the Coronavirus craziness, heighten Kenya terrorist alert and the request of Sr. Mellie “Please do not come”, Tim and Houston Cunningham (Bishop) canceled their trip to Kenya. Over a year ago, the village of Olosirua had asked for our help. An agreement was made and they had met their part of the agreement. It was now time for Life’s Heart to do their part. Life’s Heart is assisting Olosirua village with a borehole well. After numerous phone calls with WilMag, the well drilling company and Simon our trusted Maasai friend, the borehole drilling process began. Many challenges have been overcome and now there is fresh water flowing!

The Narok Orchard has its first banana bloom and orange blooms! The first banana trees were planted 16 months years ago. Currently, the orchard has been expanded to include 400 banana trees, 200 avocado trees, 200 mango trees, and 200 orange trees. The school included in the compound was opened in January 2020 with 35 primary students. The Community pick-up point has been established. All is well at the Narok / Nkairamiram site!

The mobile clinic and the village food distribution have been postponed for now. Hopefully, Life’s Heart will soon be able to travel to Kenya to continue these programs.

My Kijabe patients are doing well. Jane has a new prosthesis as she continues to grow. Dodo has new shoes and is attending school. Peshut is walking on her own.  Teya has regained hearing in her ear. All the club foot patients are progressing. Oloishorua is the only child still waiting for his 2nd surgery. He is the young boy with the broken femur which was infected and caused the bone to erode. (I can’t imagine.) But he is walking!! Funds will be wired to complete his 2nd surgery soon.

Drought, hail, rains and floods have all passed through the Naroosura and Narok area over the last several months. The Kenyans have faced the challenges with their determination and will to live. Now, they are facing an infestation of locusts. Millions of locusts are eating the vegetation for the livestock and for the people. Life’s Heart is providing agricultural resources to help combat the locusts.

“When one door closes God opens another.”  Life’s Heart is thankful that the door to provide fresh water was opened. While they wait for the door to open to return to Kenya, Tim and Bishop spent a week together visiting friends and family here.

Life’s Heart continues to pray for the people of Naroosura and Narok and for the US during this time. We are grateful for your prayers and support.

Mungu Awabariki!  God Bless You!

Marcia
