Kenya again
Tim returned to Kenya on November 19. Timing was right for him to return and oversee the planting of 486 fruit trees in the orchard at Nkairamiram. The trees had been ordered and were ready for pick up. Trucks and drivers had been secured to provide transport of the trees. Field workers were ready to begin the planting of the orchard. So Tim returned.
And once again God placed a man in Tim’s path that knew about Life’s Heart work in Kenya. The truck driver was from the village of Nuchura. This is the village where Napanoi and Laisa live. Napanoi is the little girl that had a complicated medical condition – fistula and Laisa had a cleft lip. Both received medical treatment and care provided by Life’s Heart. Napanoi had surgery at Tenwek Hospital and Laisa at Kijabe Hospital. This is also the village that has the “elephant” church. Several years ago, we planted a banana orchard there. The village and orchard are in the elephant migration pathway. As the elephants were crossing, they decided to help themselves to the bananas. The orchard was destroyed. I will never forget Somien the man in charge of the orchard was so defeated he did not want to see us. After doing some research, it was decided to provide lights for the replanted orchard at night. Solar panels, a converter and lights were placed on the building and the 3 “bright” lights at night kept and continue to keep the elephants away. However, the lights were a curiosity to the people living in the countryside where lights shining are not a common sight. The people came to see what was happening and a church was started at the site! The truck driver knew the story of the elephants and the church plus he know Napanoi and Laisa. All is well in Nuchura! My heart is full – overflowing!
Tim, Simon, Vincent, James, the truck driver and hired field workers arrived Monday evening with all the trees. They have worked all week planting, mixing soil and fertilizer, watering and chasing livestock out of the orchard twice. The fence people that Sr Mellie has hired have been there also this week. They are creating a permanent perimeter using a native cactus plant and chain-link fencing. The borehole well has been pumping water for irrigation and the community pick up point has been busy with the mamas coming to get water. It is hot and very dry there now.
On Saturday, the Nkairamiram orchard was finished. Tim and his crew traveled to Naroosura and the rest returned to their homes. It was a good week of hard work. Tomorrow, Patrick will travel with Dodo and her mama to Kijabe Hospital. Dodo, the 6yr old that walks on her “stick” legs will have surgery on Monday to reconstruct her feet. Dodo is amazing little girl and I pray a fighter, too. Please keep Dodo in your prayers. Thank you.
Life’s Heart is Living In Faith Everyday and Tim and I are blessed by this journey God has us on. Mungu awabariki!
Be Blessed!
